Knitting for Africa (part 3)

Frozen Paradise

Our eldest, Zanny, trapped with idle hands,
emits a thought sadly, as she’s sitting:
‘If it weren’t for 9/11, and its bans,
I’d have had this flight time for my knitting.’
May this change, world politics permitting.

A gasp goes up, the word goes round: ‘It’s ice!’
On our port side, a patchwork spread of white
is knitted south—a frozen paradise.
In our westering, we outpace the night,
suspending time until we end our flight.
(To be continued)
